Alpiq acquires Eco Stor’s 238MWh Bollingstedt project, formerly Germany’s largest

Switzerland-headquartered power firm Alpiq has acquired the 103.5MW/238MWh Bollingstedt battery energy storage system (BESS) in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, from owner-operator Eco Stor.

Bollingstedt was brought online in July 2025, when it was the largest operational BESS project in Germany.

It is Alpiq’s third operational BESS project after the BESS Cheviré in France (100MW/200MWh) and the BESS Valkeakoski in Finland (30MW), and it has another 250MW under construction or close to commissioning.

It recently acquired UK-headquartered BESS platform Harmony Energy, which has a pipeline of projects in the UK, France, Poland and Germany. We caught up with Harmony Energy CEO Peter Kavanagh shortly after that transaction (subscription required).
