Wahaj Ali and Mahira Khan are pairing up for the first time in their upcoming project Mitti de Baway. The show’s trailer was released by Green Entertainment on Tuesday.
Khan plays the role of Billo, a seemingly lovestruck girl turned cold-hearted spiritual leader opposite Ali’s Baala, the romantic interest of her youth who has returned from a stint in jail with toned abs and gunslinging skills.
In the trailer, Billo — shown to be 19 in 1998 — falls for Baala, whose family is cursed never to find lasting love. Baala goes to prison for an undisclosed crime, while Billo grows up to lead a group of devotees as a pir (spiritual guide).
The scene then shifts to 2002, Baala is released. He’s rougher, tougher and seemingly very good with firearms, as scenes show him shooting at people — or, in one case, getting shot in the back.
Billo, meanwhile, seems to have developed a disdain for her former love. In the trailer, she says, “I am bari sarkaar (honorary term for a leader) now and only a man my equal will suit me.”
