Singapore Police Force (SPF) said 22,397 cases were recorded and scam losses amounted to S$500.2 million during the corresponding period last year.— AFP pic First Published: Wednesday, 26 Aug 2026 6:04 PM MYT SINGAPORE, Aug 26 — Singapore recorded a decline in scam and cybercrime cases in the first half of 2026, with the number of cases falling 17.9 per cent to 18,391 and scam losses dropping by the same rate to S$410.6 million (S$1=RM3.17).In its mid-year report released today, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said 22,397 cases were recorded and scam losses amounted to S$500.2 million during the corresponding period last year.“The decrease in both scam cases and scam losses is encouraging and reflects the collective efforts of the government, industry partners and the community to combat scams.“While the scam situation has improved, the high number of cases and losses remains a concern, and tackling scams continues to be a national priority,” it said.The Anti-Scam Centre (ASC) recovered more than S$97.7 million in scam proceeds, comprising over S$89.7 million in fiat currency and S$8 million in cryptocurrency.The ASC and its partners also helped victims avert at least S$127.1 million in potential losses, including more than S$115.4 million in fiat currency and S$11.7 million in cryptocurrency.SPF said 69.5 per cent of scam cases involved losses of less than S$5,000, while 4.7 per cent involved losses of at least S$100,000.“The median loss per case fell by 19.8 per cent to S$1,350 in the first half of 2026, from S$1,682 in the same period in 2025,” it added.According to the report, e-commerce, phishing, investment, job and government official impersonation scams were the five most common types of scams during the period.In terms of losses, investment scams ranked first, followed by government official impersonation, business email compromise, job and phishing scams. — Bernama
