As the adoption of autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) accelerates globally, Africa’s business leaders face the dual challenge of scaling agentic systems fast enough to remain competitive, while also defending against an expanding cyber-threat landscape.
According to Google Cloud’s AI Agent Trends 2026 report, 52% of executives in organisations that use generative AI already have AI agents in production, with adoption rapidly expanding across customer service, security operations and productivity workflows. For African organisations, this represents an opportunity to leapfrog legacy architectures entirely.
“African enterprises can’t afford multi-year cloud migrations or incremental modernisation. Agentic AI demands secure, data-ready foundations now, and the organisations that win will be those that embed zero-trust security, compliant data pipelines and secure API ecosystems from day one,” says Nathan Ateya, Customer Engineer at Accelera Digital Group (ADG).
Agentic AI requires a new security posture
The rise of autonomous agents drastically changes enterprise risk, with the Google Cloud report stating: “AI agents are the leap from being an ‘add-on’ approach to being an ‘AI-first’ process.”
