The source said Israeli intelligence learned of the alleged plot last December and alerted U.S. authorities, prompting Yair Netanyahu to leave Florida immediately and return to Israel.The source told Newsmax that Iranian operatives were believed to be "on the ground" in the Miami area and had been monitoring Netanyahu's residence and movements. Netanyahu, who was accompanied by an Israeli security detail, was instructed to leave without collecting his belongings. He had been living in Hallandale Beach, near Miami.Netanyahu disclosed on Monday that Iran had attempted to kill one of his sons, but did not identify which one. "Iran targeted one of my sons. Iran tried to murder him," he said in an interview with Channel 14, adding that security for his children "is not a luxury" because without it, "they will simply succeed."The Israeli military censor had barred publication of information about the alleged plot for weeks, according to Channel 12. The censor was reportedly surprised by Netanyahu's decision to disclose the plot during the live interview and continues to prohibit the publication of additional details.Yair Netanyahu, 35, has spent significant periods living in the Miami area and is a prominent conservative political commentator and defender of his father. Last month, he told the Jerusalem Court that he had changed his name to "Yonatan Hun" because of a "serious security problem" and that "they want to kill me." He said the new name had been publicized on enemy channels, including an Iranian channel, and that he had received death threats from pro-Palestinian activists after his U.S. residence was exposed.Also last month, Ronen Cohen, chairman of the advisory committee on security for public figures, said on i24NEWS that an assassination attempt against a member of the Netanyahu family had been "foiled at the last minute."BREAKING: PM Netanyahu (@netanyahu) tells Channel 14 on live television, "Iran tried to murder one of my sons."In July, a ministerial committee approved extending Shin Bet protection for Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, until the prime minister leaves office, as well as five years of protection for their sons, Yair and Avner. Iranian threats have also extended to President Donald Trump's family. This week, Iranian state television broadcast a video targeting Trump's 20-year-old son Barron under the title "Where and how should we kill Barron Trump?"The broadcast purported to show information about his university, vehicles and Secret Service protection and claimed a $10 million bounty had been placed on him. According to CBS News, U.S. and Turkish intelligence had detected what officials considered a credible plot to fire a missile at Trump's plane. Israeli intelligence reportedly provided information about the threat as well. Trump, who had been expected to leave aboard the presidential aircraft, was instead secretly transferred to a nearby U.S. military aircraft.Trump has repeatedly said that Iran considers him a prime assassination target.
