Russian troops struck northern Ukrainian border city Chernihiv on the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 26, hitting a private residential building and killing a 49-year-old woman and a 4-year-old girl.According to the Chernihiv City Council’s press service, three people were in the house at the time of the attack. The city of Chernihiv has declared Aug. 26 a Day of Mourning for those killed in the attack.The Ukrainian national flag with a black ribbon will be lowered to half-mast at government buildings, local authorities, enterprises, institutions and organizations. Entertainment and concert events have also been canceled.Entertainment music will also be prohibited from being played in markets, shops, restaurants and public transport.Air Force reports 162 dronesAccording to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 162 Shahed-type attack drones, including jet-powered variants, as well as Gerbera and Parody decoy drones, beginning at 6 p.m. on Aug. 25.The attack was repelled by Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups.As of 8 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had shot down or suppressed 134 Russian drones across the northern, southern and eastern regions of the country, according to preliminary data.
