Apple TV has unveiled the first trailer for Brothers, giving us an extended look at the eight-episode comedy ahead of its September premiere. McConaughey and Harrelson play fictionalised versions of themselves, with the series drawing directly from the real-life speculation that the two actors could share a biological father.The story begins after Woody’s daughter’s wedding falls apart, prompting him to take his family to Matthew’s ranch in Austin for an extended stay. The retreat takes an unexpected turn when Matthew’s mother, Ma Mac, played by Holland Taylor, reveals a decades-old family secret that suggests the two longtime friends could actually be half-brothers. Woody becomes determined to uncover the truth, while Matthew is dealing with another major decision involving a potential run for Governor of Texas.The trailer leans heavily into the actors’ established friendship and their willingness to parody their public personas. Their relationship is already familiar to audiences from their work together in films including EDtv, Surfer, Dude and The Free State of Jones, as well as the first season of HBO’s True Detective, where they played detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart.The real-life story behind the series emerged from comments McConaughey and Harrelson have made about a possible connection between their families. During a family trip to Greece, McConaughey’s mother reportedly suggested that she had known Harrelson’s father before McConaughey was born, prompting the actors to speculate publicly about whether they could be related. No DNA test has established that they are brothers, and the Apple TV series takes the premise into fictional territory.The ensemble includes Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan, Oona Yaffe and Holland Taylor. Martinez plays Valentina, while Ishibashi plays Joy, with the younger cast members portraying members of Woody’s family.Brothers is showrun and executive produced by Lee Eisenberg, who previously worked on The Office and co-created Apple TV’s WeCrashed. McConaughey and Harrelson also executive produce the series, which comes from Paramount Television Studios.Brothers premieres September 23, 2026, on Apple TV with its first two episodes.
