Oupa Brown Mogotsi's bail application has been postponed as authorities reveal they thwarted an escape plan while he was in custody.
The Johannesburg Magistrates' Court postponed the bail application on new facts of Oupa Brown Mogotsi after hearing that correctional authorities allegedly thwarted an escape plan while he was in custody.
Gauteng spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Magaboke Mohlatlole said the matter was postponed to September 1, 2026, to allow the Department of Correctional Services to submit a detailed report to the court on the alleged escape plot.
Mohlatlole said that during Tuesday's proceedings, the State informed the court that correctional officials had intercepted information suggesting Mogotsi was planning to escape from custody and acted swiftly to prevent it.
The prosecutor read into the court record an affidavit from the investigating officer, who said he had been alerted by a Correctional Services official that Mogotsi was allegedly planning to escape.
