Free-to-air television generated a quarter of Nine Entertainment’s operating earnings in the past financial year as Australia’s largest media company pointed to subscriber gains in publishing and its streaming business Stan as proof it is less susceptible to the shift in viewers and advertisers to digital platforms.
Nine, which owns news outlets The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Australian Financial Review, the free-to-air Nine Network and outdoor advertising company QMS, reported net profit for the 2026 financial year of $142.4 million, up 7 per cent year-on-year, and earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation of $378.8 million, up 17 per cent.
