Aug. 25 (UPI) -- As word of country music icon Dolly Parton's death spread Tuesday, many people offered tributes and memories of the star, who was beloved as a musician, actress and philanthropist.
"Well, I just got the news that my buddy Dolly passed onto the higher and greater side," country musician Reba McEntire posted on social media Tuesday afternoon. "Dolly, thank you for all the wonderful things you did for us here on earth. Your love, your music, and you gave so much with your huge, huge heart. There will never be another you.
"I'll never forget the first time I met you, and I'll never forget our last conversation," McEntire continued. "I hold it with love in my heart."
Parton's family announced her death at age 80 Tuesday. Parton, who had dealt with health problems including kidney-stone-related infections recently, had a career that spanned more than six decades. She'd earned 11 Grammy Awards, three Emmy Awards, an honorary Oscar and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
