Extra-time rules for Carabao Cup: In the Carabao Cup second round, there is no extra time played if a match ends in a draw after 90 minutes of regular time.
Instead, the referee will blow the final whistle and the teams will head straight to a penalty shootout to immediately decide the winner of the tie.
This rule was introduced to help alleviate fixture congestion for clubs early in the demanding English football season.
Penalty shootout format: The penalty shootouts in this competition follow the traditional alternating sequence rather than the ABBA system that was temporarily trialled in previous years.
Each team will take turns from the penalty spot, starting with a standard best-of-five format.
