The Alphabet unit plans to begin mapping and testing in Munich within weeks, with public rides targeted for late 2027

Waymo announced Tuesday that it is preparing to launch a fully autonomous ride-hailing service in Munich, Germany — its first market in the European Union.
The Alphabet $GOOGL unit said it will begin driving vehicles through Munich in the coming weeks, initially with trained specialists behind the wheel. During that phase, the company will work to chart detailed maps of Munich's roads and tune its autonomous software to the region's particular traffic patterns and conditions. Waymo said it aims to open commercial service to the public toward the end of 2027, pending regulatory approvals from local, state, and federal authorities.
