The Auburn, Alabama company recalled one lot of its 30 mg thyroid tablets after testing confirmed they could be stronger than labeled
Vitruvias Therapeutics Inc. announced a voluntary recall of one lot of its Thyroid Tablets, USP 30 mg after testing confirmed the product could be superpotent, meaning stronger than labeled.
The recall covers lot number 504950, which carries an expiration date of Sept. 30, 2026, and was distributed nationwide from Jan. 31, 2025 to Sept. 30, 2025, according to the company. Of the 3,655 units released, 1,955 were sold.
Consuming superpotent thyroid tablets can cause hyperthyroidism, or an overactive thyroid, with symptoms including weight loss, heat intolerance, fatigue, nervousness, muscle weakness, hypertension, chest pain, rapid heart rate, and heart rhythm disturbances, the company said. Elderly patients, pregnant women, and infants face the greatest risks, particularly over extended periods. Vitruvias Therapeutics said it has not received any reports of adverse events linked to the recall.
