Viktor Fischer, founder and CEO of RockawayXRockawayXRockawayX, the Prague-based digital-asset investment firm that manages approximately $2 billion, is seeking $150 million for a new liquid opportunities fund following its acquisition of crypto hedge fund Relayer Capital, according to sources familiar with the matter.Relayer founder Austin Barack, a former partner at crypto investment firm CoinFund, will remain with RockawayX to lead the vehicle, which will invest in “undervalued tokens and crypto-related equities,” the sources said. The move might have appeared contrarian before crypto’s recent rally, which has lifted bitcoin, ether and solana by more than 20% over the last week, as several prominent crypto venture firms, including San Francisco-based Paradigm and Framework Ventures, have broadened their mandates to encompass artificial intelligence, robotics and other technologies. But Relayer’s performance may have helped convince the early Solana backers to deepen their commitment to the sector by acquiring the fund. Positions in highfliers such as perpetual-futures exchange Hyperliquid and decentralized AI platform Venice AI, whose tokens have risen 219% and 1,006% this year, respectively, enabled Relayer return approximately 70% this year, far outpacing bitcoin, ether and solana, according to the sources. Hyperliquid’s token has a market capitalization of about $18 billion, while Venice AI’s token is valued at more than $800 million. The acquisition is the latest step in RockawayX’s expansion beyond traditional venture investing. In February, the firm entered the business of managing crypto vaults—noncustodial smart contracts that pool users’ capital and deploy it across yield-generating strategies—through a separate acquisition. The vaults have since attracted over $200 million in deposits. That is despite the collapse of the company’s merger with solana treasury company Solmate. In June, RBCH Ltd., a RockawayX investment vehicle and Solmate’s largest outside shareholder, sued members of Solmate’s board in New York state court, alleging self-dealing and other misconduct. Solmate, which had separately sued RockawayX and its chief executive over failed acquisition talks, accused the firm of providing “misleading financial statements” and mounting a “fraudulent campaign” that damaged its valuation. RockawayX denied the allegations, calling them retaliatory. Both cases are ongoing.

After acquiring Relayer Capital, the early Solana backer is expanding into liquid tokens and crypto stocks even as some of its venture peers look to move toward AI and robotics.
