U.S. President Donald Trump described the human rights situation in Iran as a “human disaster of massive proportions” while referring to the execution and killing of demonstrators and calling for an immediate end to the violence.
Writing on the social media platform Truth Social on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, Trump stated: “The collapsing Iranian regime is failing to pay wages to large segments of its military forces while simultaneously murdering protesters at an unprecedented level - even when they are not actively protesting.”
The U.S. President added: “This is a human disaster of massive proportions, and it must stop right now.”
Trump did not clarify whether his reference to killing protesters outside of active demonstrations pertained to formal executions, deaths of detainees in custody, or the daily issuance of death sentences against arrested demonstrators.
His remarks coincide with a sharp rise in executions of individuals detained during the nationwide protests in January. Since March 18, at least 29 people have been executed in connection with the January protests.
