Under the exclusive MoU, BYD Malaysia and Bus Cap will explore the development of a Malaysia-based new energy commercial vehicle platform. The two companies stated they are considering setting up a local assembly and manufacturing facility for electric buses in Perak, a state in the northwestern part of Malaysia, along with related ancillary activities.
BYD Malaysia and Bus Cap are also open to working together for sales, marketing and distribution, and after-sales services. The companies have yet to determine the investment and operating structure for the proposed platform, while any implementation remains subject to definitive agreements.
Bus Cap’s manufacturing roots date back to 1968 through its subsidiary Sin Hock Leong Coach Works. In June 2026, Bus Cap became Malaysia’s first pure-play bus builder to list on Bursa Malaysia, making its debut on the ACE Market.
Commenting on the proposed partnership with BYD Malaysia, Bus Cap Executive Director Bernard Ng Chong Yan said: “BYD brings advanced new energy vehicle technology, solutions and global experience, while Bus Cap brings local manufacturing capabilities, engineering know-how, industry relationships, after-sales infrastructure and an established operating platform.”
