The Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment, Forests and Climate Change, headed by Rajya Sabha member Medha Vishram Kulkarni, visited CSIR-CFTRI in Mysuru on Monday (August 24).The delegation included several MPs, officials of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) and CSIR. Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Mysuru-Kodagu MP, was also present.The committee visited the Centre of Excellence on Millets, where members witnessed a live demonstration of millet processing, covering cleaning, processing and packaging. A video showcasing the activities and achievements of CSIR-CFTRI was screened, followed by an interaction with the committee members.CSIR-CFTRI director Giridhar Parvatam gave an overview of the institute’s major activities, highlighting its societal outreach programmes, national and international collaborations, technology development and transfer, capacity building, and research and development initiatives.An exclusive pavilion displaying CSIR-CFTRI’s technologies, products and innovations was also arranged for the delegation. The committee members appreciated the institute’s contribution to food science and technology and its efforts towards strengthening food security, food safety and nutritional well-being in the country, according to a press release.
