Stung by the shortages of LPG resulting from the war in the Middle East and the rationing and protests that followed, the Indian government has ordered state-run and private sector refiners led by Indian Oil and Reliance Industries to increase daily production of LPG, the country’s cooking fuel, by nearly 80% from 2025 average levels — accompanied by stringent penalties.
