Aug. 25 (UPI) -- King Harald V of Norway's condition has deteriorated as he undergoes treatment in an Oslo hospital for an infection of his bloodstream, the Royal Palace said.
The 89-year-old monarch, who was admitted to Oslo University Hospital Aug. 17, was expected to remain there and on sick leave from his role as head of state until further notice, the palace said Monday.
Crown Prince Haakon, 53, Harald's son, has been standing in as regent.
Prior to his illness, Harald had been receiving cortisone therapy for haemolytic anaemia, a rare blood condition that depletes the number of red blood cells causing fatigue and shortness of breath.
