Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Monday, August 24, during a telephone interview with Israel’s Channel 14 that Iran had attempted to assassinate one of his two sons.
“Iran targeted one of my sons and tried to murder him,” Netanyahu said in the interview, without providing further details.
The Israeli Prime Minister went on to mention an agreement reached with the Shin Bet (Israel’s internal security service), stating that the security protection provided to his sons and his wife, Sara, is not a luxury but a security necessity. This arrangement will remain in effect for at least five years, even if Netanyahu loses in the upcoming elections. According to him, without these security measures, the perpetrators would have succeeded.
It remains unclear which of Netanyahu’s sons, Yair or Avner, was the intended target, or when and how the alleged plot unfolded. Avner lives in Israel, whereas Yair, who is more widely known, has spent a significant portion of recent years living in Miami, Florida.
According to a report by Israel’s Channel 12, the alleged attempt occurred during a period when Yair Netanyahu was not present in Israel, although the report did not explicitly confirm whether Yair was the primary target.
