In a major relief, the Revisional Authority has stayed the ₹1,755 crore demand notice issued by District Mining Office, Ramgarh, Jharkhand for excess mining of coal and accepted the company’s petition for hearing.On April 3, 2026, Tata Steel received a Demand Notice from the District Mining Office, Ramgarh, Jharkhand (‘DMO’) demanding an aggregate amount of about ₹1755 crore. The demand was made for alleged excess extraction of about 1.62 crore tonnes of mineral coal from the company’s West Bokaro Colliery beyond the permissible limits during the period FY01 to FY07.Tata Steel has filed a petition against the order with the Revisional Authority which heard the case on last Thursday. The Authority admitted the Revision Application filed by Tata Steel for hearing.It also directed not to take any coercive steps against the company based on the impugned demand notices/letters, during the pendency of the present Revision Application, said Tata Steel.Shares of Tata Steel were down one per cent at ₹184 on Tuesday.Published on August 25, 2026
