Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the transfer of technology for all conventional missile systems developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to Indian defence companies for domestic production, the Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday.The move is aimed at expanding the role of Indian industry in the defence manufacturing ecosystem and accelerating the shift of missile systems from development to industrial-scale production within the country.Also Read: Ajit Doval calls on Chinese Vice President Han Zhang ahead of border talksUnder the initiative, domestic companies will be able to manufacture the DRDO-developed missile systems, subject to the applicable qualifications, certifications and regulatory requirements.The Ministry said the technology transfer would help build greater manufacturing capacity in the country and deepen the domestic defence industrial base. It is also expected to create more opportunities for Indian micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and other technology partners to participate in the missile systems supply chain.The initiative is part of the government's broader push for self-reliance, or Aatmanirbharta, in defence.
