Girteka Group, Lithuania’s largest freight transport and logistics group, is moving some of its transport operations to Riga, Latvia, and Oradea, Romania, where it is establishing local companies, the Verslo Žinios business daily reported.
The company said the move was part of an effort to adapt its European operating model to changing labour market conditions and a persistent shortage of truck drivers.
“The decision is not driven by any single regulatory or tax difference. We assess the entire business environment, and currently one of the most important factors is the ability to secure enough drivers for our fleet and our customers’ needs,” Girteka told Verslo Žinios.
The company said it has already registered nearly 100 trucks in Latvia and is preparing to register trucks and hire its first drivers in Romania.
Girteka operates in Germany, Poland, Denmark and Norway and carries out about 800,000 freight transport operations annually for more than 5,000 customers across Europe.
