The EFF has escalated scrutiny of DA MP Mark Burke, filing an ethics complaint days after the ANC and MK Party opened separate criminal cases over the Kastelo allegations.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has lodged an ethics complaint against Democratic Alliance (DA) MP Mark Burke over his role at Kastelo, a financial services company at the centre of a South African Reserve Bank investigation involving transactions worth more than R4 billion.
The EFF submitted its complaint to Parliament’s Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests on Monday, accusing Burke of violating the ethical standards expected of MPs.
The complaint follows a South Gauteng High Court judgment in which Kastelo’s application to have its accounts with Access Bank unfrozen was dismissed.
The accounts were frozen by the Reserve Bank after the SARB, Access Bank and some of Kastelo’s clients reported suspicious transactions allegedly in contravention of South Africa’s exchange-control regulations.
