Ghaziabad police apprehended two individuals following a gunfight on the Delhi-Meerut ExpresswayGHAZIABAD: Ghaziabad police arrested two people for allegedly robbing Rs 25 lakh from a Meerut-based businessman on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway under the jurisdiction of Wave City police station.The arrests were made after a gunfight in which both accused received bullet wounds in their legs.According to police, the accused were identified as Saddam (20), a resident of Arthala, Sahibabad of Ghaziabad and Aasif (38), a resident of Meerut.A businessman carrying Rs 25 lakh in a bag was stopped right in the middle of Delhi-Meerut Expressway by armed men who blocked his Thar with two cars, held a pistol to his head and fled with the cashThe robbery took place around 7pm on Friday, when traffic continued to pass around the vehicle, oblivious to the crime the gang carried out inside the Thar.Gillaman, a Meerut businessman who owns a factory recycling waste material, was driving to Jafrabad in Delhi with his cousin Samad and relative Saleem to pay for supplies. He left Meerut around 5pm and reached Dasna in a couple of hours, when he was stopped on the expressway.Police registered an FIR against unknown persons under the section of 309 (4) (robbery) of BNS in Wave City police station.Priyashri Pal, ACP of Wave City said that on Tuesday early hours, the SWAT team and Crime Branch received information from an informer that the accused wanted in Case of a robbery of Rs 25 lakhs with Meerut based businessman on Delhi-Meerut Expressway, were roaming in the area on a Splendor motorcycle. On the information, the SWAT team, Crime Branch, SWAT team Nagar Zone, and Police Station Wave City police team started checking in the Wave City area.“During checking, 02 persons riding on one Splendor motorcycle without number plate were seen coming. When the police team tried to stop them, both motorcycle-borne persons, seeing the police checking and being surrounded by the police team, turned the motorcycle around and started fleeing back. When the police team chased them, they abandoned the motorcycle and started firing at the police team with the intention to kill. In retaliatory action, in the police encounter, both fleeing persons were injured after being shot in the leg and fell down. They were immediately sent to the hospital for treatment and their condition is stable,” she said.From the possession of the accused, the looted Rs 05 lakh was recovered along with 02 illegal country-made pistols of 0.315 bore, 04 live cartridges, 04 empty cartridges and a Splendor motorcycle without number plate were recovered.
