Charlotte Wilson via Getty ImagesAug. 25, 2026 3:14 am EDT Updated Brighton & Hove Albion are closing in on the signing of Jaouen Hadjam from Swiss side Young Boys.The clubs are working on a €12million (£10.3m; $14m) deal for the 23-year-old left-back, who would become the south-coast club’s eighth signing of the summer.Hadjam, born in France, played for Paris FC and Nantes before moving to Young Boys in 2024 for around £1m. The Algeria international has made 73 appearances in the Swiss Super League and has also featured for Young Boys in the Champions League and the Europa League.Signing Hadjam would increase the full-back options for Brighton’s head coach Fabian Hurzeler. Turkish international Ferdi Kadioglu and Belgium’s Maxim De Cuyper currently compete for the left-back spot.De Cuyper sometimes plays further forward on the left, and Kadioglu can also play at right-back. That would free up Mats Wieffer to move into his former role in central midfield, with Carlos Baleba on the brink of joining Manchester United.Hurzeler turned Dutchman Wieffer into a right-back last season. Portuguese right-back Costinha has arrived from Greek club Olympiacos this summer to increase competition and cover in that position.Kadioglu missed Sunday’s opening 4-0 home win in the Premier League against Aston Villa due to a minor injury. Brighton face Norwegian side Tromso in the Conference League play-off round second leg at the Amex Stadium on Thursday after a 0-0 draw in the away leg last week.
