"Ukraine has been Europe's protector, not a drain on our security but the front line in keeping Europe safe", Burnham said (Photo: Reuters).British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has pledged to maintain pressure on Russia despite what he described as Moscow's "outrageous threats", during his first official visit to Ukraine as the PM.Burnham met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and chaired his first meeting of the "coalition of the willing", a partnership of 34 countries including Ukraine that was established by the UK and France under his predecessor Keir Starmer.The UK government has agreed to allow defence company MBDA to declassify information on British-made components used in the Scalp missile, the French version of the UK's Storm Shadow cruise missile. The move will enable Ukraine and France to work towards establishing assembly lines in Ukraine and allow Kyiv to produce the long-range weapon domestically.Scalp missiles and their UK-produced Storm Shadow variant have already been supplied to Ukraine by Britain and France and used against military targets inside Russia.Speaking during the visit, Burnham said allies were doing "everything we can" to support Ukraine, including drawing from their own air defence stocks and helping other countries do the same."This is the moment to keep up the pressure on Russia, the moment to squeeze their ability to fund this illegal war," he said, while praising the "strength" of the Ukrainian people."Ukraine has been Europe's protector, not a drain on our security but the front line in keeping Europe safe," Burnham added.The comments came after Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov criticised Britain's decision to share information related to the missile's components. He said the move prevented "even the slightest progress" towards peace and claimed that the Russian military was already collecting information to identify missile production sites for destruction."Britain is involved in this war on the side of the Kyiv regime. Britain methodically and regularly adds fuel to the fire," Peskov told reporters on Monday.Responding to the remarks, Burnham said: "Who started the fire? That's the question, isn't it?"Ukraine has been dependent on American supplies of Patriot air defence systems, but its stockpiles are running low due to the war in Iran, leaving the country vulnerable to Russian attacks.
