UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham and other European leaders plan to travel to the United States in September to persuade U.S. President Donald Trump to give Ukraine access to stocks of interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems ahead of winter.
Burnham said this in an interview with Bloomberg, Ukrinform reports.
“I’m looking forward to going to New York in September,” Burnham said, referring to the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
He added: “Leaving today [Kyiv – ed.], I’m quite clear what I need to do in the next few weeks.”
Burnham said he left feeling “really optimistic” that Ukraine’s current difficulties in defending itself against Russian ballistic missile strikes due to low stocks of interceptor missiles are “fixable.”
