A woman who told a court how her former partner dragged her hair through dog urine has secured a protection order. Her ex-boyfriend had a “big” temper issue, she told Dublin District Family Court on Monday, and had broken five mobile phones belonging to her over the course of their relationship. The couple were together for a number of years and had lived together but broke up. The woman said he had turned up at a friend’s home she was staying at recently “very angry, looking for me to come down”. “I went down and then he pulled me out of the door by my jacket, screaming, telling me that I’m coming with him and stuff like that,” she said. “He was dragging me around the garden, over railings, back over the railings. I was trying to stay in the garden to be safe and he was trying to get me out of the garden and then he shoved me in the head. I have a mark on my eye from him shoving me at the side of the head.” Judge John Brennan asked the woman had he ever done this before to which she replied “once or twice”. She said on a separate occasion he had come home and saw there was dog urine on the floor. “And because the pee wasn’t cleaned, he actually dragged my hair through it,” she said. The judge asked the woman did he apologise for his behaviour, to which she replied: “No, he never apologises.” She said after arguments he would spit in her face. Brennan granted the woman a protection order on an ex parte basis, where one side only is represented in proceedings. It prohibits the man from using or threatening to use violence. The judge included a clause that the man was not to contact her by phone or on social media and not to be near or watching her home. A full hearing, which the man will be expected to attend, was set for a later date. In a separate case before the court, a woman secured an interim barring order against her husband. She said he was a chronic alcoholic and had been drinking every day. She told the court she had suffered health problems as a result of his behaviour while her son was also attending Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. The woman said her husband had called her “a geebag” and was constantly calling her son “a scumbag”. She said he had recently said to her son: “I’d love to f*** you down those stairs.” Her son feels “really hurt” by her husband’s behaviour and he “just can’t take it any more”, she said, explaining that his mental health was “going downhill” and that he had been left “shaking”. The judge granted an interim barring order on an ex parte basis, excluding her husband from the family home for eight days, and from watching or being near it. The judge said the man’s serious alcohol issues were causing significant harm to the woman and her family. A full hearing, which the woman’s husband is expected to attend, was set for a later date.
