According to the survey, only around 33 per cent of respondents approved of the Republicans' performance in the White House, the lowest in either of Trump's terms (Photo: Agencies).US President Donald Trump’s popularity, along with the American public’s approval for war with Iran, has fallen to a record low compared to the initial days of the conflict, according to a recent survey.As per a four-day poll conducted by Reuters/Ispos, which surveyed 1,215 US adults, 31 per cent of Americans support US military action against Iran, down from 34 per cent earlier this month, and 37 per cent in March.A decline was also observed among the republican respondents, with 69 per cent supporting the war against 77 per cent in March.Trump has stated that the now six-month war is necessary to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. However, the prolonged conflict and the blockade of Hormuz have pushed U.S. gasoline prices near ‌record highs.Around 83 per cent of the surveyed Americans think the war will continue "for an ⁠extended period of time", a figure up from 80 per cent earlier this month.Additionally, the Trump government is losing its public confidence. According to the survey, only around 33 per cent of respondents approved of the Republican's performance in the White House, the lowest in either of Trump's terms.Meanwhile, when asked who they would vote for if elections were held today, independent voters favoured Democrats over Republicans by 22 per cent to 19 per cent.Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign included on promises to control inflation and avoid lengthy military conflicts.However, according to Reuters, the country’s gasoline prices are ⁠more than a dollar higher per gallon than they were before the conflict.
