The City of Cape Town has approved multi-billion rand contract for the supply of electricity from an Independent Power Producer.

The City Council has authorised municipal manager Lungelo Mbandazayo to sign a contract with an Independent Power Producer (IPP) company to supply electricity to the tune of R5.1 billion over a period of 20 years.

The contract to be entered into with Make A Difference Ventures is one of several multi-year tenders.

A report tabled in council stated that it had approved deviation in contracts awarded to Make a Difference Ventures and Pele Decentral Consortium in February 2025.

The meeting had considered a report related to Make A Difference and another is yet to be considered when negotiations are concluded with Pele Decentral Consortium.
