Athens has repeatedly refused to send its Patriot systems to aid Ukraine's war effort
The Greek government has decided to relocate a Patriot air-defence system back to the island of Crete after Iran threatened further attacks on European soil.
The system was moved last March to the island of Karpathos, which lies between Crete and the Turkish coast, as Iran’s ally in Lebanon, Hezbollah, fired rockets towards British bases in Cyprus.
The presence of the Patriots on Karpathos had irritated neighbouring Turkey, which is also a NATO member and has long-standing maritime disputes with Greece.
However, Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis told OPEN TV on Monday that the system was relocated for “operational reasons”, to protect the country’s islands.
