(Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency) Gyeonggi police on Tuesday revealed the name, age, and mugshot of Kim Sang-su, a 52-year-old man suspected of stalking and then murdering his former girlfriend.Kim is under investigation for stabbing the victim, who was in her 60s at around 3 a.m. on July 5 in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, according to the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency. The two had dated for about four years.Kim claimed that he committed the crime in the heat of the moment, but police found evidence that he had planned the murder. He purchased the knife on the day he was notified of the stalking charges being pressed against him, and wandered around the victim's workplace for an extended period before the attack.He also researched "how to lower criminal punishment" when he was being treated for self-inflicted wounds after the attack.Kim has been indicted under physical detention and is facing charges of retaliatory murder, which can result in heavier punishment than regular murder.Police initially decided to reveal Kim's face last Tuesday upon the decision of a deliberation committee, but it was delayed after the suspect filed an opposition. The Act on the Disclosure of Personal Information of Specific Serious Crime Suspects grants a five-day grace period if the suspect raises an issue.The information will be posted on the police agency's homepage until 9 a.m. on Sept. 24.
