Christian Petersen / Getty ImagesAug. 24, 2026 7:21 pm EDT Updated PHOENIX — Embattled second baseman Ketel Marte is on track to come off the 10-day injured list early next week, Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Monday.“There’s definitely a strategy to getting him back on the field, get him healthy,” Lovullo said.Marte, who was transferred to the injured list last Thursday, previously spent three days on the restricted list, after flying with the club to Boston for its series against the Red Sox but failing to report to Fenway Park.MLB’s restricted list is a roster designation that is reserved for players who are not with the club for a personal or non-baseball reason. They remain under contract with their organization, though they are not mandated to be compensated. Placing a player on the restricted list requires approval from MLB.
Marte on Thursday underwent an MRI in Phoenix, which revealed inflammation in his left knee. He had previously exited Arizona’s game against the Atlanta Braves on Aug. 14 with left knee soreness and then sat the next day. Marte received an injection in his knee and has been rehabbing at Salt River Fields, Arizona’s spring training complex located just outside of Phoenix. On Monday, he posted a video of his rehab on Instagram.The ordeal, which began with a visibly emotional Lovullo discussing Marte’s absence in Boston, took another turn Friday, when Marte was spotted a nearby casino while his team had a home game.“It’s not a choice I would make; I’m sure it’s not a choice a lot of people in this room would make,” Lovullo said before Saturday’s game. “But Ketel is a grown man, and he can make his own decisions. He did not break any rules, he was fully able to go there and do what he wanted to do. Like I said, he makes his own decisions.”Arizona has Sunday off before returning home for a three-game set against the Philadelphia Phillies.This story will be updated.
