The Department of Posts’ Dak Sewa app will enable consumers to avail postal services like speed post, parcel booking, money order, etc. at their doorstep, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Monday.While announcing the launch of the app, the minister said during the trial phase the app has witnessed over 10 lakh downloads and the services are available across the country.“Our customers will be able to book all services of the postal department sitting at their homes or offices, just with one click on the Dak Sewa app. On the basis of this Sewa app, we have already booked 99 lakh parcels,” Scindia said.Dak Sewa app offers digital payments and multilingual accessThe Dak Sewa app is available in 23 Indian languages. The app also enables digital payments through UPI, internet banking and cards. Online bill payments through SBI ePay, along with domestic and international booking processes, have been made simpler and more integrated.Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani said customers expect services at their doorstep, and businesses want logistics that they can rely on, and also India Post employees need effective tools so that they can function much more efficiently to serve people better.“India Post has to keep up with all of these. If you look at it over the past few decades, we gradually became less relevant to a generation of young Indians. If they wanted to send a parcel, they often looked somewhere else. If they wanted insurance or financial services, they looked at private digital solutions. Yet India Post has reach, affordability, and trust of generations that only a few organisations can match,” he said.India Post eyes technology and organisational transformationHe said that the Department of Posts can transform in four ways: technology upgradation, change in policy frameworks, change in organizational culture, and physical infrastructure.At the event organised by the Department of Posts, Scindia also launched the Dak Mitra app and inaugurated 14 renovated post offices.Pemmasani said like Dak Seva empowers the citizens, Dak Mitra empowers India Post employees.Dak Mitra app expands postal operationsSince the launch of the app’s earlier avatar in May 2025, the Dak Mitra app has been operational across 1.4 lakh branch post offices. It has facilitated 2.45 crore domestic speed post/parcel bookings and played a significant role in the delivery of 15.09 crore postal articles.The initiative has contributed to Rs 1,102 crore in new premium collections and a total premium collection of Rs 5,431 crore.Published on August 25, 2026
