Gainbridge Super League president Amanda Vandervort, who has been with the league since its inception, is set to depart from her role, the United Soccer League announced Monday.Vandervort will step down Friday “to pursue other opportunities,” the league said. She was named president of the USL Super League in 2021, arriving after nearly two years at FIFPRO and nine years with Major League Soccer.“From the beginning, we set out to create more opportunities for women in the game and more communities where professional women’s sports are celebrated, and I’m proud of the league we’ve built together,” Vandervort said in a statement.She went on to say that she was grateful for her time with the organization and the chance to build something new.“I believe deeply in the people and clubs who will carry the league forward, and I’ll continue to cheer on our incredible teams from the stands. For me, it feels like the right time to close this chapter, and I’m looking forward to what comes next,” Vandervort said.Paul McDonough, the USL’s president and CEO, credited Vandervort with playing “an important role” in growing women’s soccer at the USL over the last five years, most notably by leading the launch of the Super League. “Building a professional league from the ground up is a major undertaking, and Amanda deserves a lot of credit for her leadership and the work it took to make it happen,” McDonough said in a statement.
