The Delhi Food Safety Department on Monday destroyed around 508 kg of spurious paneer seized during an inspection at Okhla Sabzi Mandi as part of a two-day enforcement drive ahead of Raksha Bandhan.The Department has stated that legal action has been initiated under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the relevant rules and regulations.During the drive, officials have also collected 22 enforcement samples of various food items from different districts in Delhi. The samples have been sent to designated laboratories for analysis, the Department said in a statement.Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said food safety remains a priority, particularly during the festive season when demand for milk products, paneer, sweets, edible oils and other food items increases.“Every family has the right to enjoy festive food without worrying about its safety. The Delhi Government will take strict action against those who compromise with food quality or put the health of citizens at risk,” Mr. Singh said.He said adequate teams have been deployed in each district for regular inspection, sampling and monitoring of food establishments, markets and supply points.The Department said the checks will continue in the coming days, with a focus on monitoring the food supply chain and preventing unsafe and substandard products from reaching consumers.
