The incident took place in Saldanha along the West Coast.
A 10-month-old infant from Saldanha, situated on the West Coast, was taken to hospital this past weekend due to serious injuries, which included fractures to both legs.
Wendy Kaizer-Philander, the MEC for Social Development, confirmed the incident and said social workers have initiated a child protection investigation in response to the child's hospitalisation.
The MEC visited the child in hospital on Sunday to assess his condition and ensure the necessary child protection processes were being followed.
The baby is only 10 months old.
