Stage 3 of the Vuelta a España was abandoned with 15km remaining after a severe hailstorm struck the French Pyrenees.

Tadej Pogacar was seen signalling to the peloton to slow down and pull over as torrential hail battered riders on the Col de Mont-Louis.

The cancellation left the Slovenian nine seconds clear of Wout van Aert in the general classification standings.

Pogacar is chasing a clean sweep of all three Grand Tours, having already won the Tour de France five times and the Giro d'Italia once.
