The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday granted two-day emergency leave to P. Raghu Ganesh, convicted in the Sattankulam custodial deaths case.A Division Bench of Justices A.D. Jagadish Chandira and B. Murugesan was hearing a petition filed by R. Vidhya, wife of Raghu Ganesh, who sought grant of emergency leave for her husband to attend the last rites of his father G. Paramasivam.The convict prisoner’s father passed away on August 22, and the cremation is to be held on August 25 at Kalakad in Tirunelveli district. The court granted emergency leave to the convict prisoner on August 25 and 26.The court directed that on August 25 he should be taken from Madurai Central Prison to his native place, Kalakad. After performing the ceremonies, he should be brought back to Madurai Central Prison on August 26.Necessary escort should be provided to accompany the convict prisoner. During the leave period, the convict prisoner should abide by all the conditions prescribed in the jail manual, the court directed. Published - August 24, 2026 09:54 pm IST
