Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi convened a meeting with officials of the Department of School Education and Literacy on Monday (August 24, 2026) to address controversies surrounding the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). “The meeting reviewed key priorities for strengthening CBSE’s academic, examination and administrative processes, with a focus on greater efficiency, transparency and improved support for students and teachers,” Mr. Joshi wrote on X. CBSE is facing intense public scrutiny, particularly surrounding its 2026 Class 12 board examination evaluation process, issues concerning technological mismanagement and administrative failures, and a trust deficit among students.The newly introduced on-screen marking system (OSM) for Class 12 answer sheets came under scrutiny after students, who applied for re-evaluation, discovered that the scanned copies of answer books sent to them belonged to other individuals. Many complained about blurry and unreadable scans, missing pages, unchecked answers, calculation errors, and frequent portal crash.Questions were raised about the vendor chosen for the OSM system – Coempt EduTeck – the company behind the 2019 Telangana intermediate exam fiasco.Cybersecurity researchers and ethical hackers exposed data privacy vulnerabilities in CBSE’s digital evaluation infrastructure, pointing to a lack of robust archival architecture and the leaking of sensitive student data. Expert teams from IIT Chennai and IIT Kanpur reviewed CBSE’s IT ecosystem and said that ensuring long-term security of CBSE’s IT systems needs a plan. Published - August 24, 2026 09:56 pm IST
