Sunsure Energy’s renewables portfolio has surpassed the 500 megawatt-peak (MWp) mark in Uttar Pradesh, including the operational project at Kabrai village in Mahoba district which is the first one to evacuate green power under the state’s Green Energy Corridor-II.The independent power producer (IPP) services various commercial and industrial (C&I) customers in the state including Dabur, LG Electronics, Bisleri, UltraTech, Jindal Stainless, APL Apollo and Kajaria Ceramics. It is backed by $400 million from Swiss global private markets firm Partners Group.Kartikeya Narain Sharma, Co-Founder & Chief Business Officer at Sunsure Energy, told businessline: “We recently commissioned two solar projects at Charkhari and Kabrai in Mahoba district. The 105 MWp Kabrai project was commissioned in 4 months and is the first solar project to evacuate green power under the Uttar Pradesh Green Energy Corridor-II (GEC-II) project.”The Green Energy Corridor-II project refers to the Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation (UPPTCL)’s investment of nearly ₹5,400 crore to set up 21 substations and associated transmission infrastructure to evacuate close to 4,000 MW of solar power from the Bundelkhand region. The company’s portfolio in the state has hit around 506.5 megawatts (MW), which includes the under-development project in Hamirpur, entailing an investment of roughly ₹1,500 crore.Sharma noted that the successful evacuation of solar power from Sunsure’s Kabrai plant, through the newly energised 220 kV Kabrai substation, marks the first time green power has flowed through this corridor, setting a precedent for the projects that will follow.“This portfolio includes our commissioned plants in 2026-Erach, Kabrai, and Charkhari with a cumulative capacity of 292.5 MWp and is spread across 1,000 acres in Jhansi and Mahoba districts. Another 75 MWp solar project is under development in Hamirpur, along with a 500 MWh grid-scale battery energy storage project in Jhansi that will supply peak power solutions to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL). It is among the largest commercial battery storage builds in the country,” he added.“As UP works towards its $1 trillion economy mission, we believe reliable, affordable green power will be central to how its industries plan and how jobs grow,” Sharma emphasised.Sunsure Energy also has an operational portfolio of 305 MWp in Maharashtra and around 75 MWp in Tamil Nadu. It envisages an operational capacity of 10,000 MW by 2030.Last month, the IPP announced securing a debt commitment of ₹262 crore for its open access solar project at Ilayangudi in Tamil Nadu. The financing is led by FMO, the Dutch entrepreneurial development bank, which holds the majority of the debt, with the balance of around ₹71 crore sanctioned by Axis Bank. This is FMO’s first project financing in the Group Captive C&I renewable energy space in India. In the last two years, Sunsure has more than doubled in scale moving from an operational base of around 330 MW to a 1.50 gigawatt (GW) operational and under-construction portfolio, with a 7.80 GW project pipeline across 8 Indian states and a clear runway to the 10 GW target by 2030.A full-stack IPP, Sunsure designs, builds, owns, and operates solar, wind, hybrid, and battery energy storage projects enabling corporates to adopt clean energy.Published on August 24, 2026
