Desperation or positive thinking? Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus on Monday named Siya Kolisi in his team for the crucial second Test against the All Blacks in Cape Town, despite an element of doubt over the star flanker. Kolisi was on the team sheet with Paul de Villiers listed as the alternative in case he isn’t fit. “He [Kolisi] still had a niggle on Sunday,” Erasmus said at a press conference in Johannesburg. “We want to obviously get him into the team, but he has to get through today’s training.”The coach would love to have his regular No 6 back because he would bolster the team against the All Blacks who took the first contest 33-16. Pieter-Steph [du Toit] is doing a sterling job and Pieter is really playing well and … Siya’s got some strengths.“One of them is the attacking breakdown. He is really good at sorting that out fast — it was [an] area that we struggled with. “I think there were lots of times that we played really badly — and not because they did anything illegal — we just couldn’t get them away out of the breakdown when we were in really good attacking positions. “Siya’s really good at that and … he’s really good at getting us width on defence. He and Pieter together … are really well organised in the defensive sets in the gates. “That was definitely something which we lacked, but Paul will just get better. He’s only played four matches.”Cheslin Kolbe was another player missing because of injury. “It’s more than just cramps,” said Erasmus. “He’s in amber at this stage. There might be a late change with Cheslin if he really recovers well … but at this stage I don’t think it will be. “It’s not even the hamstring anymore, it’s a little bit of an ankle as well now,” he added.Grant Williams, who started the first Test, is out with an ankle injury and Canan Moodie had pulled a hamstring. Erasmus called up Deon Fourie, who had a blinder against the All Blacks for the Stormers in their tour opener, describing him as a player one brings in in emergencies. “He’s a wrestler, he’s a gymnast … he covers hooker, he can go to open side as well. If Siya plays, he can move there later and then André [Esterhuizen] can maybe go to the backline again so it gives us more options, gives us more leadership and calmness.“When we sometimes have to push the emergency button, he’s one of those players.”Veteran flyhalf Handré Pollard was always likely to start in the Cape Town Test but was an obvious choice with Kolbe, who had the kicking duties at Ellis Park, now likely to miss out. “It’s probably going to be wet … Handré has always been the guy that does it for us.
