Taiwan’s unemployment rate rose to 3.39 percent last month from 3.34 percent in June, as new graduates and students entered the labor market, although the increase was largely seasonal, the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) said yesterday.Last month’s figure remained the lowest July reading since 2001, highlighting the resilience of a labor market supported by strong economic growth, DGBAS said.“The rise in unemployment was largely seasonal,” Department of Census deputy director Tan Wen-ling (譚文玲) said. “The graduation season brought more new graduates into the job market, while some students also sought temporary work during the summer vacation.”
