Police personnel detain Students Federation of India (SFI) Telangana State Committee members as they attempt to march towards the Telangana Secretariat from Indira Park during a protest in Hyderabad on Monday.

The Students’ Federation of India has sought that polytechnic education remain under the State Board of Technical Education and Training (SBTET) and not be merged with Young India Skill University (YISU) as proposed in the G.O. No. 97. They called for immediate withdrawal of the order.Several leaders of the organisation on Monday held a demonstration near Indira Park here, and questioned the absence of a government order on lateral entry, Engineering Common Entrance Test (ECET) eligibility and employment.They pointed out that SBTET recognition and AICTE approvals are required for students seeking ECET and lateral entry into engineering courses.The leaders also criticised the State government for the reported denial of police permission for its committee leaders to hold a protest at Dharna Chowk over the development, including transfer of assets and students, and issues related to lateral entry and fee structures.During the demonstration, police detained SFIs leaders S. Rajinikanth, T. Nagaraju and several others when they attempted to proceed to the protest site over the denial. The protesters were removed and taken to Domalguda police station.
