IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said the free breakfast scheme for students of government schools is aimed at improving their physical growth and concentration, thereby contributing to better learning outcomes. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that no child in Telangana goes to school hungry, he added.He was speaking after inaugurating a centralised community kitchen at Manthani, the headquarters of the Assembly constituency he represents, in Peddapalli district on Monday.The mechanised kitchen was established at an estimated cost of ₹7.5 crore under Singareni Collieries Company Limited’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.Operated by the Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation (HKMCF), the kitchen has the capacity to prepare 10,000 idlis, 3,000 dosas and 5,600 puris an hour under hygienic conditions, officials said.Mr. Sridhar Babu said the initiative was initially launched on a pilot basis in Kodangal Assembly constituency under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. Student attendance in the constituency increased by 21% following the implementation of the scheme, he said, adding that it was subsequently extended to Madhira constituency.A special menu had been designed to provide government school students with a variety of nutritious breakfast items every day while maintaining hygiene standards, he said.Later, the Minister inaugurated a 33/11 kV substation at Gangapuri in Manthani and the newly constructed Kamanpur Tahsildar’s office building in Peddapalli district.The Minister said the government was implementing several welfare measures, including free bus travel for women and free electricity up to 200 units a month for eligible households while laying emphasis on infrastructure development, with focus on rural areas, to improve people’s living standards.
