The United States is preparing a new sanctions campaign against Iran as Tehran threatens to stop oil exports from the Gulf and retaliate against countries that support Washington. The measures come six months into the US-Israeli war against Iran, with shipping through the Strait of Hormuz restricted and diplomatic efforts under way.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is due to announce the measures on Monday.
He described the planned campaign as an “economic D-Day” and said Washington intends to sever Iran’s remaining sources of revenue.
