The Delhi High Court on Monday (August 24, 2026) sought responses from political commentator Abhijit Iyer Mitra and several media portals and platforms in a plea filed by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das, who alleged that his residential address and other personal details were made public without his consent.Mr. Das approached the court seeking protection of his privacy, dignity and personal security, along with damages for the alleged violation of his privacy.Justice Sachin Datta issued summons and notices to Mr. Mitra, X, Google, and several media platforms. The matter is scheduled to be heard next on September 14.In his plea, Mr. Das sought a permanent and mandatory order restraining the defendants from publishing, circulating or otherwise disclosing his residential address. He has also sought directions for the removal of videos and posts containing such information and for disabling public access to them. The plea further seeks directions to X and Google to take down content that allegedly reveals his personal details. During the hearing, the court was informed that X had removed posts that disclosed Mr. Das’s address.‘Safety risk’Mr. Das alleged that the defendants unlawfully obtained, recorded and repeatedly disseminated his residential address and other personal information, including details about his background, parents and sexuality. He further claimed that some of the defendants entered the shared residential premises, recorded its interiors and subsequently published the footage on X.Referring to several videos posted on social media, Mr. Das submitted that his journalistic work, public-interest disclosures and political engagement had previously exposed him to threats of violence and targeted hostility. He argued that the repeated publication and amplification of his precise residential address posed a genuine and foreseeable risk to his safety and could expose him to violence in and around his home.
