Scott Kirby said United could acquire slots from carriers not flying profitable routes out of JFK, and plans to announce new international destinations this week

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby outlined plans to expand the carrier's presence at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and grow its international network, which already leads U.S. airlines by flight volume.
Kirby told CNBC that he is looking to establish a larger United presence at JFK once the airline re-enters the airport via a JetBlue Airways partnership, which he said could materialize as soon as next year. He said the airline is working several angles simultaneously, among them the possibility of picking up slots from carriers whose JFK operations are not generating returns.
