Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, has urged citizens to ask tough questions and demand evidence behind every political promise ahead of the polls.
Speaking at a news conference in Onitsha, Anambra State, Obi announced the commencement of campaign activities leading up to the January 16 presidential and National Assembly elections. He framed the 2027 contest around national survival, stating that Nigeria faces existential challenges that require disciplined leadership and a production-led economy.
Obi highlighted his background as a former governor of Anambra State alongside his private-sector credentials as his primary qualifications for office. He noted that his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, brings complementary governance experience, having prioritised technical training, education, and human-capital development during his tenure as governor of Kano State. Together, Obi argued, their administration would focus on converting Nigeria’s vast population into its primary long-term resource through strategic public investments.
